Apple brought smiles, and disappointment too, at the same time when they brought the iPhone 4S into the market. Many attempts have been made to make the iPhone 4S compete and stand strong against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S II, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, HTC Sensation, and Apple has quite succeeded in getting more praises than it had received for the iPhone 4. The design is unchanged, the same typical box-capsule shaped with sharp edges, and overall an impressive design but the same coming in a lesser thickness would have made iPhone the all-time favorite for us. The software is changed, the camera has been upgraded, the connectivity options have got better, and apart from that the major hype created for the iPhone 4S is because of Siri, the personal assistant which interacts with the user.

The iOS 5 has been made into something that tries to merge well and become a part of your daily activities, with the automation and the ease of usage the new version provides. Facetime, an application that helps making video calls through various iOS users has the advantage of the Wi-Fi or the data network. A robotic voice is heard when you interact with Siri, and this voice is similar to those voices that the GPS devices and the text-to-speech conversion tools have, but in the end, Siri makes the iPhone 4S usage highly productive. Gone is the time when you sit, read the message and reply to it. Siri reads out the message, and types the message you want as a reply through voice.

Apple has packed a 5.3-Watt hour battery in the iPhone 4S, and that promises many hours of usage and doesn’t fail to provide the same. A test with continuous video playback gave more than 7 hours of playback on a single full charge of battery. The music playback and calling can easily last for more than 18 hours, but the top-end performance while gaming has to compromise the battery, and the draining is evident while you are gaming with some high-graphic loaded ones. The camera is stunning, and one won’t regret buying the 4S if they had a good camera as one of the needs. The 8-megapixel lens along with a flash, captures the photos within a flash and the quality is no less than what you get from at least a 12-megapixel digital camera. The rear camera captures videos of 1080p HD quality, and the quality is peerless. The LED flash shines quite bright, and the dark surrounding capture too is neat, when a picture is being captured.

The reasons why the iPhone 4S won’t be able to galvanize the users, include the still-the-same size of the screen, although the resolution is quite good with 960x640 pixels on the retina display of the bare 3.5-inch screen. What a smartphone user would expect would be at least a 4-inch screen when the camera and operating system are so well upgraded. The iPhone 4S looks beautiful, but at the same time, has the highest risk of damage and shattering when it falls accidentally. The 3G connectivity is neat, but not improved and there isn’t much difference in the data loading speed and the web browsing experience when the iPhone 4 and 4S are on the comparison desk.

There were many advancements which could be done, to make the iPhone 4S the perfect smartphone to hold in every geeks’ hand. Although so many changes, the spark to bring a desire for upgrading is missing. Apple has brains to have made Siri work only on the iPhone 4S, and the camera upgrade would have been another supporting point for people to think about upgradation, but that isn’t enough. Still, the iPhone 4S is the best iPhone till date, but the same 4S keeps us confused when the selection for the best phone in the market is the need. Talking about the price, the US markets still have the price kept quite low, but the Indian market has the iPhone 4S at sky-high price and one wouldn’t want to upgrade from an iPhone 4 to 4S if they have to shell out the same amount they did to get the former in the past.

Overall, the iPhone 4S is admirable for what it provides. An excellent speed, good battery life, the dazzling camera, the new personal lifetime assistant named “Siri” and updated operating system which brings limitless features that make the lifestyle easier and better. But on the other hand, the phone has got the similar design as its predecessor and the connectivity hasn’t got a real big update. Still, one would be totally impressed with the iPhone 4S, and we rate it one of the best smartphones in the market.
