F1 2010 Review

The must have F1 racing game for any gamer.

Formula 1 is one of the most popular and biggest motor sport in the world. Sadly, there has been a dearth of good gaming titles for F1 in the recent past. With F1 2010, Codemasters aimed to change that and they did a very good job. Thanks to Zapak, the game reached India almost at the same time as the international release.

F1 2010 brings in all the elements of the real world into the game. You get 19 circuits, 12 teams and 24 drivers to play around. Moreover, it offers players with a three/five or seven-season career mode along with time trials and even covers press interviews and media sessions. The emphasis of the game in the career mode is to actually enhance your skills. As your join in as a rookie, you have to play through various raced, take part in test sessions and even have a say in the car development. The combination makes the game seem more and more realistic.

The graphics of the game are just terrific. The cars are very well done and so are the tracks. The cream of the crop is the dynamic weather system. Driving in heavy rains or in scorching heat has the same effect on your screen as you see in a live telecast on the TV. The sound effects are outstanding right from the initial hum of the engines to tyres squealing on the tracks. The in-game voice over is equally well done, but having the race engineer constantly saying one thing or the other, most of which becomes repetitive over the career really becomes a irritating.

The gameplay of F1 2010 is one of the best in terms of racing games available currently. The game offers enough control on the car for both experienced and new gamers. With the assists on, the car control is easy with automatic acceleration and thrust control on turns. With the assists turned off, an experienced gamer can get the full control to maneuver the car as per his choice. The overall gameplay is the perfect blend of an arcade and simulation. The weather plays a major role in the gameplay as well. In heavy rain, the car skids and turns over the wet track as any real car would. If you are driving in scorching heat, then your engine starts to get overheated much faster. All these little things just add to the overall gameplay making the game hours of fun.

The AI of the game is one of the smartest we have seen in racing games. The opponents try and look for open spots to take the lead, whereas the ones in lead try and block you in every way they can. As your progress in the game, the AI becomes harder and harder as well to keep you on your toes.

The game is available for Rs 2,499 for PS3 and brings back the fun in F1 games that had been missing in the past few F1 titles. If you are a die-hard F1 fan or just a causal gamer looking for a racing game, F1 2010 is your best bet so far this year. Highly recommended.
