Will Touch your Soul

2008 has been really a great year for Samsung Telecommunications; we saw some really innovative products like the i450, Soul and G800 with 3x optical zoom. And the latest device from Samsung's flagship is the slick-looking F480 'TouchWiz'. The design is strikingly similar to the LG KS20 (a Windows PDA), but this one just has a better overall finish. The F480 sports a bright 2.8” touchscreen and has three keys underneath for accepting, rejecting, and a shortcut menu. The front has a shiny glossy front (which obviously is a fingerprint magnet) and a back that has a brushed metallic finish. The huge touchscreen is very responsive and is a joy to work with. The widgets screen is one of the more interesting features of this phone. Widgets allow the main display to be customized as per your liking and this gives a personal feel to the phone. You can drag and drop any application widget to and from the side bar to the main display; the ease with you can drag and drop widgets will get you hooked immediately. The main interface is flash based and is quite user-friendly. The only trouble with the UI is that the virtual keyboard is not the regular QWERTY keyboard that we have generally seen on touchscreen devices. The phone boasts of a 5 MP camera which is nothing to talk about; it clicks below average pics. The phone's sound output through the speaker was not that loud, but the sound output through the headphones was great for both voice calls and music playback. As the phone was a preview unit, we are sure that camera and sound issues will be fixed in the final retail version. Although it's no smartphone, the super-responsive touchscreen and great multimedia capabilities make the F480 capable enough of giving many other touch phones a run for their money-even the iPhone.
